Among the quotes:
“I knew there were fans….I didn’t know there were people who’d hunt you down. I urge them to watch the 1986 animated movie, go watch the cartoon. You’ll want to shoot yourself.”

TAORMINA, Sicily — DreamWorks/Paramount’s “Transformers,” the mega-budget summer film based on the 1980s animated series, launched the summer season Thursday at the 53rd annual Taormina Film Festival with the festival’s most enthusiastic response and extra-tight anti-piracy measures.

Only Michael Bay would have the creative nerve to re-boot the animated Transformers as a live-action motion picture. Sure, Batman and Spidey have fanatic followers, too, but Transformers trippers are multi-generational compulsives. Even in their quietest moments, they have been making lots of noise about how this latest cinema makeover will ruin this and/or mess up that.
All this for a movie about a cartoon originally created to sell toys. Uh-huh. Toys.
