Affleck Talks 'Pearl'

Got this from the Cinescape Insider:

Ben Affleck is talking about Pearl Harbor and how it won’t be like helmer Michael Bay’s previous films. While talking to Popculprit, Affleck gave his take on the ongoing production, saying, “This is a serious film, and the stuff we shot in Hawaii is just visually amazing. It’s not a mindless action thing.”

Affleck adds, “The only thing that is fictionalized in the movie are some of the characters, who are amalgams of real people. Michael is humanizing the event, and it’s richly evoking the time and feel. It’s a serious film in all the ways that big, serious Hollywood movies have historically been, but only bigger, more sophisticated, more realistic·[Bay and producer Jerry Bruckheimer are] intent on not making this a mindless movie, which makes the whole thing almost more genuine than it otherwise would be. This is not a safe film for Michael, there is tremendous pressure for it to be as honest as possible.

Pearl Harbor teaser

“December 7, 1941 - a date which will live in infamy…we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost, but will make very certain that this form of treachery shall never endanger us again.” -Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Pearl Harbor Speech, December 8, 1941.

I felt my blood rushing to my brain. I had goose pimples. I saw the Pearl Harbor teaser. God, this movie will be awesome. Go see the previews for “The Patriot.”

Bad Boys Special Edition

The Special Edition for “Bad Boys” was released today. If you’re interested in buying it click here.

When I spoke to Michael about the first DVD transfer for Bad Boys, he told me that Columbia-Tristar screwed up the transfer. He was right.

If you were ever to see the LaserDisc transfer of Bad Boys you will ask yourself who was doing the transfer at Columbia. My…the quality of the picture is horrible!

Now with this Special Edition release, the image looks waaaay better than the first DVD/LaserDisc release. It is a significant improvement.

Also, the most interesting thing about this release it Michael’s commentary. It is very enlightening, and at times it can get very technical. But Michael keeps it interesting throughout the whole movie be it with technical info or some stories. By far this is my favorite commentary. He’s the one doing all the talk unlike “The Rock” & “Armageddon.”

Go buy it!

Voight elected FDR in Disney 'Pearl Harbor'

Jon Voight is set to star as President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in Disney’s megabudgeted World War II drama “Pearl Harbor” for filmmakers Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Bay… Having brought the United States out of the Depression, Roosevelt rallied the nation to support the war through his radio “fireside chats” and with his national speech the day after the Dec. 7, 1941, Japanese sneak attack, which he described as a day that “will live in infamy.”

Pearl Harbor tidbit

Someone emailed me this tidbit that originally apprear in Dark Horizons.

“A little tit-bit report from some preliminary shooting on the Michael Bay directed Pearl Harbor here in Hawaii which wrapped up today. I witnessed one scene filmed, which was primarily a shot from above the ground (100 metres). However, located at each angle to the centre shot, were several cameras. A few words with some of the production staff, told me this was all to do with the DVD release. Apparently, viewers of the DVD, will be able to choose which camera angle they want to view. This won’t be of just certain scenes, but of the whole movie.

This film will change the face of the way we view DVD, and will be the first major film to have ‘proper’ interaction with the viewer, almost allowing the audience to direct the film itself.”

Cinco de Mayo and Tony Cimo

For those of you of Mexican heritage, I would like to wish you a “Feliz Cinco de Mayo!”

For those of you living in Atlanta, WATL will broadcast this Saturday afternoon “Vengance: The Story of Tony Cimo.” So what’s the big deal? I’ve been bombarded with emails asking me if Michael acts in this movie as a sled agent. Go figure. The Internet Movie DataBase (IMDB) list him as part of the cast for this 1986 movie. I have official word that tells me that it is not the Michael Bay we know. Who the hell gave this info? Can anyone delete that info at the IMDB?

Anyway, if someone gets to record this, please send me a copy (email me at nelson@michaelbay.com if you want my mailing address). I wanna see who this sled agent is…

Nike Alpha Project ads

Click here to view one of Michael’s Nike Alpha Project commercials titled “Court Elves|Johnnny the Angry Android|Goat Boy.”You must have Quicktime 4.0. Note: this is one of Michael’s strangest commercials by far. It has that creepy “Fellini-esque” look and feel to it. I’ve always said it again and again: Michael can make pretty dark and edgy stuff. I just hope he directs the “Gory Details.” Below is the list of the three commercials he made for the Alpha Project campaign.

“Court Elves|Johnnny the Angry Android|Goat Boy” (Propaganda Films 1999)

“Johnny the Angry Android” (Propaganda Films 1999)

“Snowdome” (Propaganda Films 1999)

Pearl Harbor article

The Honolulu Advertiser has an article mainly about Jerry Bruckheimer (co-producer) and snippets from Michael Bay. Click here to read it. Among Michael’s quotes: “…I side with the survivors rather than the historians. Everyone has their own stories… And every historian has their own stories. What Iâm doing is taking the essence of the survivors, taking bits and pieces, and putting them into the movie.”
